Hella old... Last semester, one of Robert Lence's assignments was to read a short story from a stack he provided and draw from it. I chose "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" by J. D. Salinger. This is the main character, Seymour Glass. I drew Muriel and the little girl too but I didn't like those as much. Will have to keep working on them. Turned out to be the perfect story to pick since I'd read Franny and Zooey a couple summers ago and loved it! So this is the wonderful Seymour they kept talking about. I'd like to draw all the Glass family members sometime. Man, normally I don't even have to force myself to make time for reading but lately I haven't been as good about it.

In the spirit of Halloween, I decided to draw the thing I fear most: that little bitch from Ringu.

When I was 14, I flew to China on Japan Airlines. One of the movie options was the Japanese Ring. Of course I watched it. Because I'm stupid. Of course I chose to watch a movie that would make me fear small Asian girls with long hair while on a flight to a country filled with small Asian girls with long hair, while also being a small Asian girl with long hair. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror. I was an insomniac for the next six months, even after I got back home. I was so afraid of her coming out of the television and finding me in my sleep that I would spend every night watching MTV in the living room just so I'd be prepared if she crawled out. I guess my logic was that if I was actively watching the damn thing, she'd feel shy or something and stay in there. My grades suffered and I was always exhausted and I probably looked a lot like her. But now I'm over it. (??!)

Recently took a little road trip to the Badlands in South Dakota. Lots of thunderstorms on the road! Went by myself so I only had my thoughts, country music, and the Atlas Shrugged audiobook for company. I tried to force myself to remember what everything looked like so I could draw it later, but I can't really do it justice. Next time, I want to bike. Driving is convenient, but it feels remote.

I picked up a hitchhiker along the way. He's originally from Annecy (small world)... filming a travel documentary! It felt good to have someone to talk to after three days by myself.

Well!

The first week of summer, Eusong and I worked on this... children's book. The story was written by someone else and brilliant Eusong designed all the characters and drew all the illustrations and made up a style guide. So all I had to do was follow along and color the way Eusong does. I learned a lot from him. Never used so much lasso tool in my life

Hahaha! I honestly don't know anything about color or lighting! But I learned a lot from doing these, just trying to fake it.

And my parents just moved to a new place. My new front yard is a McDonald's and my new backyard is beautiful rolling hills with horses and cows and coyotes. Urban sprawl...

I woke up this morning from a dream in which I was being flung from an airplane face-first into a swarm of bees. I was late for class, and I was still in bees-on-my-face mode, so I started dressing on autopilot (ha!). I realized I'd put on the same shirt I wore yesterday (which still has Skyler's "ask me about my fursona" pin on it) so instead of replacing it I PUT A SWEATERVEST OVER THAT SHIT. Logic.

Then it came time for pants. Too tired to wrestle with jeans (you win today, bastards). SWEATPANTS. These sweatpants end at the calf. I was afraid my exposed ankles would get cold or stung by bees, so without even considering the possibility of socks, I put on some boots. Maximum protection. And that is the story of my morning. And I drew this with a mouse! Happy birthday Sam!
